How to optimise images in WordPress

Introduction

Optimising images is crucial for improving your WordPress site’s performance and loading speed. Follow these steps to Optimise images using the LiteSpeed Cache plugin:

Prerequisites:

  • Ensure you have the LiteSpeed Cache plugin installed on your WordPress site.
  • Pre-Optimise your images by resizing them to the desired display size and reducing their file size before uploading them to your site.
  • Obtain a LiteSpeed QUIC.cloud API key by following the guide provided.

 

Step 1: Configure Image Optimisation Settings

  • Log in to your WordPress admin panel.
  • Go to LiteSpeed > Image Optimisation.
  • Click the “Image Optimisation Settings” tab.
  • Adjust the following settings (recommended settings):
  • Auto Request Cron: On
  • Create WebP Versions: On
  • Image WebP Replacement: On
  • Click “Save Changes” to save your settings.

 

Step 2: Gather Image Data

  • Switch to the “Image Optimisation Summary” tab.
  • Click the “Gather Image Data” button.
  • A success banner will confirm how many images have been gathered.

 

Step 3: Send Optimisation Request

  • Click the “Send Optimisation Request” button.
  • A banner will confirm that the first image has been sent for optimisation.
  • LiteSpeed will optimise images in batches. The Cron automation you enabled in step 4 will continue the process, optimising images over time.
  • Newly added images will be Optimised automatically as long as the “Auto Request Cron” setting is enabled.
