Introduction
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Hostingly Client Area by requiring a second step for login, typically involving a one-time password (OTP) generated by a 2FA app. Here’s how to set up 2FA in the Hostingly Client Area:
Pre-requisites:
- You’ll need a 2FA app installed on your mobile phone or desktop, such as Google Authenticator.
Step 1: Access Security Settings
- Log in to your Hostingly Client Area.
- Click on your name in the top right corner.
- Select “Security Settings.”
Step 2: Setup Two-Factor Authentication
- Select “Click here to Enable”
- Choose “Time Based Tokens”
- Click “Get Started”
Step 3: Scan the QR Code
- Open your 2FA app and follow its instructions to add a new account.
- Scan the QR code displayed on the Hostingly screen or enter the provided text code.
- The new account should appear in your 2FA app and generate OTP codes.
Step 4: Enter the Code
- Return to the Hostingly screen.
- Enter a valid OTP code from your 2FA app.
- Click “Link authenticator app.”
Step 5: Completion
- You’ve successfully set up 2FA. Future login attempts will ask for the OTP code from your authentication app.
Adding a Security Key:
- Repeat step 1
- Select “Click here to enable”
- Choose “Yubico”
- Click “Get started”
- Follow the on screen instructions to pair with your Yubico Security Key.
- Your security key is added, and you can now use it to access Hostingly services.
Generating a New Recovery Code:
- To generate a recovery code, click “Generate your recovery codes.”
Note down the displayed recovery codes immediately, as they are only shown for 1 minute.
Disabling 2FA:
To disable 2FA, remove the enabled authentication methods:
- For Authenticator app, log in to Hostingly Client Area, go to Security settings, and click “Remove app.”
- For Security Key, log in to Hostingly Client Area, go to Security settings, and click “Remove” next to the key.
Unable to Generate 2FA Code or Use a Backup Code:
If you’re unable to generate a 2FA code, lost access to the app, and don’t have a backup code, contact Hostingly support for assistance. They will guide you through enhanced security procedures to regain access to your account.
