How to verify domain ownership

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) made changes to the RAA (Registrar Accreditation Agreement) on January 1st, 2014. These changes have significantly strengthened the responsibilities of both domain registrars and registrants. The goal is to eliminate orphaned and lost domains (domains with unverified or invalid registrant contact information) and prevent ownership disputes.

Maintaining Accurate Contact Information

All domain names must have accurate contact information in compliance with ICANN’s RAA. Hostingly collects this information during domain registration and allows you to manage it within your Hostingly client area. You are required to keep valid contact details for your domain at all times, even if you use domain privacy to hide your information from global WHOIS searches.

How to Verify Your Domain Names:

When you change the contact information for existing domains or register a new domain, a verification message may be sent to the registrant email address.

It’s crucial to respond to this email within 15 days.

Failure to respond will result in the domain being suspended and placed in ClientHold status, impacting any services relying on it. While this suspension is reversible, reactivation may take up to 72 hours. These policies are mandated by ICANN and enforced by our registration partners. Hostingly cannot intervene or be held responsible if you do not comply with these requirements.

What to Do If You Don’t Receive the Validation Email:

If you do not receive the validation email, it may have landed in your spam folder or quarantine, or you may have provided incorrect contact details. Please double-check to ensure this is not the case.

If validation emails are rejected, the email address is considered invalid, and the domain name will be suspended and placed in ClientHold status.

Reactivating a Suspended Domain:

If your domain gets suspended, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Hostingly client area.
  • Correct your domain’s contact records.
  • Raise a support request to request the resend of the validation email.
  • Once you have successfully validated your domain name, it will be unsuspended. This process may take up to 72 hours.

By following to these guidelines, you can ensure the accurate and verified ownership of your domain names with Hostingly.
